Khushboo

Nine-year-old Khushboo lives with her parents and brother in Balmiki Camp, Sakipur, Greater Noida. Her father works as a manual scavenger, and her mother is a homemaker. Illiterate themselves, Khushboo’s parents initially showed no interest in her education, leading her to stay at home and help with household chores.

In September 2022, during a community mobilization drive to introduce the Enlight project in Noida, the team found Khushboo assisting her mother at home. Through discussions with Khushboo and her mother, the team introduced them to Project Enlight. Despite initial hesitation from Khushboo’s mother, multiple home visits and discussions eventually led to her agreeing to let Khushboo join the center if she desired.

Khushboo was welcomed to the CSC where the education facilitator introduced her to fellow children and engaged her in observing the activities. This sparked an interest in Khushboo, prompting her to eagerly join the CSC.

In 2023, observing Khushboo’s passion for learning and her positive growth, the team enrolled her in 2nd grade at Nehru Smarak Primary School. Sharing her aspirations, Khushboo expressed her desire to become a teacher like Salina ma’am (Education Volunteer). Since joining the project, Khushboo has consistently participated in both academic and non-academic activities, maintaining good personal hygiene and inspiring others to do the same.

Ms. Salina, the education volunteer, voiced confidence in Khushboo’s potential, affirming, “We will assist Khushboo in preparing for Navoday Vidyalaya and other schools after completing her primary education, and I am confident she can succeed.”
